Cumbria County Council seeks views and opinions of carers living in Cumbria

The county council would like to know more about the support that carers receive and how it could be improved.

There are a number of existing services and networks that are already in place and the council is keen to hear from carers across the county. Some carers are as young as five years old, others may be elderly themselves.

Many people in Cumbria currently provide help and support to family and loved ones but might not think of themselves as carers or be formally recognised. This group might not be aware of the support available and it’s important that they complete a survey too.

Cllr Peter Thornton, Cabinet Member for Health and Care Services said:

“Family and friends provide a huge amount of care and we simply couldn’t manage without them. This survey is to find out how we can best support them and I encourage anyone involved in a caring role to take 10 minutes to complete this survey.”

Cllr Anne Burns, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, added:

"The survey is anonymous and it’s really important that our young carers complete it too. By telling us about the help that they currently receive and sharing their views, they can help to improve support in the future.”

There is a choice of an adult’s carers’ survey for those carers who are aged 18 and over or a young carers’ survey for people aged 5-18 years.

To complete the adults carers’ survey go to: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/RWTLNJQ

Or for the young carers survey go to: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/RB3R6JW

To request a paper copy of either survey please contact liz.hargreaves@cumbria.gov.uk

Closing date for completed surveys is 5pm on Monday 22 January 2018.

If you are currently caring for others and  would like to find out more about the support that is available, contact your local carers organisation.
