Council listens and takes action to improve the ticketing arrangements at Windermere Ferry

Announced at the Cumbria County Council Cabinet meeting in Kendal this morning, Thursday 27 July, the Leader of the Council Stewart Young said:

“I am pleased to announce some immediate improvements to the payment system at Windermere Ferry:

  1. Using hand held contactless devices we can take card payments, without customers having to leave their cars.

  2. For those paying by cash we have improved the instructions, have staff on hand to help and there will shortly be 2 machines at each ferry head to ease queuing. We have also sourced new machines that are easier to use, which will be installed from September.

The review is ongoing and I will share further updates as and when we have them, but for now I’d like to thank those involved for the work done so far and the improvements already made in time for the busy summer period.”

Councillor Janet Willis, Cabinet Member for Customer Engagement also said:

"We are pleased to have been able to make these changes in response to customer feedback.  We hope they will improve the experience for ferry users.  We will continue to listen to what residents and visitors say about all of our services and we will continue to make improvements."
