Cumbria’s Biggest Jigsaw revealed

To help raise vital funds for Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice, the Chairman of Cumbria County Council, Cllr Elizabeth Mallinson launched a fundraising appeal last month to help raise money by building Cumbria’s biggest jigsaw.

An event showcasing all the completed pieces is being held on Wednesday 27 March at Carlisle Youth Zone at 1.15pm where the Chairman will welcome those who have taken part to come and lay their completed jigsaw piece and help create Cumbria’s biggest jigsaw!

The council invited schools, libraries, care homes and community groups - in fact anyone who wanted to take part - to design their very own giant jigsaw piece. The theme for the designs was ‘Love Cumbria,’ where participants were encouraged to draw, paint or design a piece showcasing what they love the most about Cumbria - whether that be the lakes, fells, gingerbread or Beatrix Potter!

Commenting on the initiative, Cllr Elizabeth Mallinson, Chairman of Cumbria County Council said:

“Jigsaw does a truly amazing job providing essential support to children and young adults with life-limiting conditions throughout the county and I wanted to do something really creative to help raise funds for them. A giant jigsaw was the obvious choice!

"A special thanks must also go to James Cropper Plc who very kindly donated the card for our giant jigsaw pieces too."

“I’m absolutely delighted with the amount of people, schools and other groups that have got behind this idea, including Story Homes who so generously donated £1,000 to the cause. I know these contributions will be very welcome indeed by the charity and make a huge difference to those children and young adults in greatest need.
