Cumbria GCSE and A-Level results day information

Cumbrian Secondary Schools will co-ordinate the release of student-focused GCSE and A-Level information on results days.

Since a successful pilot in 2017, secondary schools from across the county have continued their agreement that on both A-level and GCSE results days they will only publish data on individual student success, and not the headline measures such as the percentage of children reaching certain thresholds.

Judith Schafer, Chair of the Cumbria Association of Secondary Headteachers (CASH), said:

“Cumbrian schools remain united in their determination to do the very best for all our students and to see them succeed is always a huge pleasure. Schools across the county are working together to make sure that success is celebrated by staff, students, parents and communities.

“Success comes in many forms, and on results days we will be pleased and proud to share those successes of students at all schools. Across the county, it is significant that secondary schools are working together with integrity to make sure that the hard work that staff and students have put in over the year is recognised. We are making sure that collectively and individually we have accurate data to share with the media, the public and other stakeholders who are as keen as we are to celebrate the successes of our children and to congratulate all of our school staff.

“As last year, schools will be able to present accurate data later in the year and this will be made available to all interested parties to ensure that judgements made about our schools are well informed, accurate and fair. In the meantime, we are looking forward to being able to share the many good news stories that will emerge on results’ days as our young people move on to the next stages of their education.

“Schools continue to face significant scrutiny over performance measures, and it’s important that we keep front and centre the young people who are the reason why we are in this business, and who rightly remain the focus of all we do. It is a privilege to be able to share in their success and I know Headteachers and all staff will be proud of their achievements on results days.”
